What does the Bible say about Bethany:

Bethany is a village at the base of the Mount of Olives southeast of Jerusalem. According to the Gospels, Mary, Martha, and Lazarus were all from the town of Bethany. During Jesus’s ministry he often visited Bethany, and it was within Bethany that Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead. It was also in the town of Bethany that Christ ascended to heaven following his death and resurrection.

Biblical Passages Regarding Bethany:

After Christ criticizes the money changers in the Temple he spent the night in Bethany:

Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves…And he left them and went out of the city to Bethany, where he spent the night.

Matthew 21:12,17

A woman poured perfume on Jesus’s head in Bethany:

While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.

Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey from Bethany:

The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it.

When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.

Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha.

Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead in Bethany:

When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face.

Mary cleans Jesus’s feet with her hair and perfume in Bethany:

Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
