Biblical Contradiction Explained: Christians should or should not publicly pray:
Christians should publicly pray:
Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the assembly of Israel and spread out his hands toward heaven “…Now therefore, O God of Israel, let Your word, I pray, be confirmed which You have spoken to Your servant, my father David.”
1 Kings 8:22,26
The LORD said to him, “I have heard your prayer and your supplication, which you have made before Me; I have consecrated this house which you have built by putting My name there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually.
1 Kings 9:3
Christians should not publicly pray:
“When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
Matthew 6:5-6
Explanation:
Matthew 6:5-6 does not condemn public prayer. In this passage Christ is condemning the act of praying for the purpose of giving others the impression that you are righteous. Christ says that when we pray we must pray solely for the purpose of praying; whether public or private.
However, if we pray only to give others the impression that we are a righteous person then our prayers will fall on deaf ears.
