Biblical Contradiction Explained: God is or is not the author of evil:

God is the author of evil:

The One forming light and creating darkness,
Causing well-being and creating calamity;
I am the LORD who does all these.

Isaiah 45:7

So now then, speak to the men of Judah and against the inhabitants of Jerusalem saying, ‘Thus says the LORD, “Behold, I am fashioning calamity against you and devising a plan against you. Oh turn back, each of you from his evil way, and reform your ways and your deeds.”’

Jeremiah 18:11

Is it not from the mouth of the Most High
That both good and ill go forth?
God is not the author of evil:

Lamentations 3:38

I also gave them statutes that were not good and ordinances by which they could not live;

Ezekiel 20:25

If a trumpet is blown in a city will not the people tremble?
If a calamity occurs in a city has not the LORD done it?

Amos 3:6

God is not the author of evil:

“The Rock! His work is perfect,
For all His ways are just;
A God of faithfulness and without injustice,
Righteous and upright is He.

Deuteronomy 32:4

for God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.

1 Corinthians 14:33

Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.

James 1:13

Explanation:

This is a case of confusing the concepts “evil” and “misfortune.”  To some, evil and misfortune are virtually synonymous. Assuming this simile is applicable, there is a contradiction within the Bible. However, the biblical definition of evil is: that which is not in accordance with the will of God, and in no way is synonymous with misfortune or calamity.

The only thing that can be defined as evil is sin (to conduct oneself outside of the will of God). Never does the Bible say God is the author of sin.
