Biblical Contradiction Explained: God is warlike or God is peaceful:
God is a God of war:
“The LORD is a warrior;
The LORD is His name.Exodus 15:3
For I am the LORD your God, who stirs up the sea and its waves roar (the LORD of hosts is His name).
Isaiah 51:15
God is a God of peace:
Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.
Romans 15:33
for God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.
1 Corinthians 14:33
Explanation:
This is only a contradiction if you believe war and peace are incompatible and distinct. According to the Bible, God is both a God of peace and a God of war. The Bible makes it very clear that there are times and occasions when war is justified. Under these circumstances one could call God a God of war. However, there are other situations in which war is not necessary. Under these circumstances one could call God a God of peace.
It should also be noted that the passages within Romans 15:33 and 1 Corinthians 14:33 are not identifying peace as the antithesis of war. Instead, these passes are identifying the type of personal and peaceful relationship one can have with God.
