Biblical Contradiction Explain: God’s anger endures or does not endure:
God’s anger endures for a long time:
So the LORD’S anger burned against Israel, and He made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until the entire generation of those who had done evil in the sight of the LORD was destroyed.
Numbers 32:13
And you will, even of yourself, let go of your inheritance
That I gave you;
And I will make you serve your enemies
In the land which you do not know;
For you have kindled a fire in My anger
Which will burn forever.Jeremiah 17:4
God’s anger endures for a short time:
For His anger is but for a moment,
His favor is for a lifetime;
Weeping may last for the night,
But a shout of joy comes in the morning.Psalm 30:5
Explanation:
To address this apparent contradiction we must consider the life of David (the author of Psalm 30). When considering the story of David’s life (namely his sinful behavior and ultimate repentance) along with the poetic nature of the Book of Psalms, the true meaning behind David’s statement “His anger is but for a moment” becomes a little more clear.
The anger of the Lord, according to David’s Psalm (and the rest of the Bible), is “but for a moment” when contrasted with God’s love. Until one repentance, God’s anger will endure. However, when one does repent, their forgiveness is instantaneous and God’s love will endure forever (making his anger short in comparison).
