Biblical Contradiction Explained: We should or should not judge others:
We should not judge others:
“Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you.
Matthew 7:1-2
We should judge others:
For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church?
1 Corinthians 5:12
Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? If the world is judged by you, are you not competent to constitute the smallest law courts? Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more matters of this life? So if you have law courts dealing with matters of this life, do you appoint them as judges who are of no account in the church?
1 Corinthians 6:2-4
Explanation:
There is no contradiction between these passages. Matthew 7:1-2 is not condemning judging others entirely. In this passage Christ is identifying the hypocrisy that is so common when judging others. Christ warns that anyone who judges another will be held by the same standard.
Shortly following Christ statement in Matthew 7:1-2 He further clarified His point regarding hypocrisy when judging others:
You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
