Biblical Contradiction Explained: prayer should or should not be repetitious:
Prayer should be repetitious:
yet because this widow bothers me, I will give her legal protection, otherwise by continually coming she will wear me out.’” And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge *said; now, will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry to Him day and night, and will He delay long over them?
Luke 18:5-7
Prayer should not be repetitious:
“And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
Matthew 6:7-8
Explanation:
Christ does not say we should not repeatedly pray. Christ only says we should not pray “as the Gentiles do.” At the time, this would include practices such as chanting or meaninglessly repeating prayers.
When a Christian prays they are to pray under the assumption that God is hearing their prayer. That whether or not God hears our prayer is not dependent upon how many times we pray.
At the same time, the Bible does not discourage praying repeatedly; making a distinction between repetitious prayer and fervent prayer. When a Christian prays repeatedly, they are not doing so because they believe God did not hear them the first time. They’re doing so to reaffirm to themselves and God that, even though their prayer has not yet been answered, they still trust God entirely.
